"Why Should We Hire You?" — How to Answer (with Examples)

This question is an invitation to close the sale. The interviewer wants a confident, evidence-based summary of why you fit this role better than other candidates, without sounding arrogant.

The 3-proof structure

Pick the three most important requirements from the job description. For each one, give one proof from your experience: a project, a result, a responsibility. Then close with what you will deliver early on.

This works because it answers the question in the interviewer's own terms. You are not listing your favourite qualities; you are showing that their needs are already covered.

Sample answer: experienced

"You need someone who can own data pipelines, work with business stakeholders and improve reporting speed. I've built and maintained Airflow pipelines processing about 40 million rows a day, I run the weekly metrics review with our sales leadership, and I moved our main dashboard from a 20-minute refresh to near real-time. In the first quarter I'd focus on understanding your current data model and quickly fixing the reports your team trusts least."

Sample answer: fresher

"The role needs strong SQL, curiosity about data and clear communication. I used SQL daily in my internship to build sales reports, I've completed three analysis projects on public datasets that I can walk you through, and as the coordinator of our college tech fest I presented progress to faculty every week. I learn quickly, and I'm ready to be productive on your reporting tasks from the first month."
